Composition of Pyrigesic Drops

Pyrigesic Drops contains Paracetamol (100mg/ml). It belongs to the Analgesic (paracetamol/acetaminophen) class of medicines.

How Pyrigesic Drops works

Acts centrally to reduce fever by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the brain’s temperature-regulating center and provides analgesia by reducing pain signal mediators.

How to take Pyrigesic Drops

Oral drops: Shake well before use. Measure the dose with the provided dropper as per child’s weight/age and doctor’s advice. Can be given with or without food; giving after food/milk may reduce stomach upset. Do not exceed the recommended dose/frequency.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and sometimes fatal liver damage, often with no symptoms at all for the first day. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Pyrigesic Drops

Most side effects of Pyrigesic are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• rash
• itching
• increased liver enzymes (rare)

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Do not use more than the prescribed dose; overdose can cause serious liver damage. Use with caution in liver disease, severe kidney disease, dehydration, malnutrition, or chronic alcohol exposure in caregivers. Avoid using multiple medicines containing the same fever/pain ingredient simultaneously. Seek medical help if fever persists >3 days, pain >2 days, child is very drowsy, has breathing difficulty, persistent vomiting, or signs of allergy.

Do not take Pyrigesic if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with severe liver disease, except under medical supervision.

Interactions with other medicines

Other products containing paracetamol/acetaminophen, warfarin (with prolonged use), isoniazid/rifampicin, phenytoin/carbamazepine/phenobarbital, alcohol (caregiver), zidovudine

How to store Pyrigesic Drops

Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.

Take the lowest dose that works, and leave the stated gap between doses. Seek help immediately after a suspected overdose, even if you feel completely well — treatment works best when it is early.
