Rasalect 0.5 Tablet contains Rasagiline (0.5mg). It belongs to the Selective MAO-B inhibitor class of medicines.

How Rasalect 0.5 Tablet works

Rasagiline is a selective, irreversible monoamine oxidase-B (MAO-B) inhibitor. It increases dopamine levels in the brain by reducing dopamine breakdown, improving motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.

How to take Rasalect 0.5 Tablet

Oral tablet; take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day. Can be taken with or without food. Do not stop or change dose without medical advice.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Rasalect 0.5 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe confusion, abnormal movements, a very slow pulse and collapse. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Rasalect are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• arthralgia

• orthostatic hypotension
• dry mouth

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Prescription medicine. Risk of hypertensive crisis with tyramine-rich foods or interacting drugs; follow diet/medicine advice. May cause dizziness or orthostatic hypotension—use caution while driving/standing up. Watch for serotonin syndrome when combined with serotonergic medicines. Use caution in hepatic impairment; avoid in severe liver disease. Report hallucinations, impulse-control disorders, or worsening dyskinesia (especially with levodopa).

Do not take Rasalect if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Your doctor will assess suitability if you have heart, eye or psychiatric conditions.

Interactions with other medicines

SSRIs/SNRIs/TCAs (serotonin syndrome risk),MAO inhibitors or linezolid/methylene blue (contraindicated),meperidine/tramadol/methadone (serious reactions),dextromethorphan (avoid),sympathomimetics/decongestants (hypertension risk),ciprofloxacin and other CYP1A2 inhibitors (increase rasagiline levels),levodopa (may increase dyskinesia)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.

You have been prescribed Rasalect 0.5 Tablet to treat your symptoms of Parkinson's disease. It can be taken with or without food or as directed by your doctor. Be cautious while driving or doing anything that requires concentration as Rasalect 0.5 Tablet can make you very sleepy. Rasalect 0.5 Tablet can make you dizzy or lightheaded, especially when you suddenly stand up from sitting or laying down. Let your doctor know if you are also taking medicines for depression or mood disorders. Do not stop taking Rasalect 0.5 Tablet suddenly. Sudden stopping may cause confusion, stiff muscles and a high fever. As a precaution, foods high in tyramine (e.g. aged cheeses, air-dried meat, soy sauce, tap/draft beers and red wine) should be avoided when taking Rasalect 0.5 Tablet, as it may cause an unsafe rise in your blood pressure.
