Composition of Secretag 1 mg Tablet

Secretag 1 mg Tablet contains Glimepiride (1mg). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea class of medicines.

How Secretag 1 mg Tablet works

Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea antidiabetic. It lowers blood glucose mainly by stimulating insulin release from pancreatic beta cells and may also improve peripheral insulin sensitivity.

How to take Secretag 1 mg Tablet

Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily with breakfast or the first main meal. Swallow with water; do not skip meals after taking it. Dose is individualized based on blood sugar response.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Secretag 1 mg Tablet

Most side effects of Secretag are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)
• dizziness
• headache
• nausea
• abdominal pain
• diarrhoea
• weight gain
• rash
• photosensitivity

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Secretag 1 mg Tablet

Warnings and precautions

Risk of hypoglycaemia is higher with missed meals, excessive exercise, alcohol intake, elderly patients, kidney/liver impairment, or with interacting medicines. Monitor blood glucose regularly. Use with caution in renal or hepatic disease; dose adjustments may be needed. Seek medical help for severe hypoglycaemia, jaundice, severe skin reactions, or signs of allergy. Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Inform doctor before surgery or during acute illness (dose changes may be required).

Do not take Secretag if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney or liver disease.

Interactions with other medicines

Other antidiabetics/insulin (increased hypoglycaemia), alcohol (increased hypoglycaemia risk), beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), ACE inhibitors (may enhance glucose-lowering), corticosteroids and diuretics (may raise blood glucose), rifampicin (reduced effect), azole antifungals such as fluconazole/miconazole (increased effect), NSAIDs and salicylates (increased effect), warfarin (effect may change; monitor INR)

How to store Secretag 1 mg Tablet

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.

Take it shortly before a meal, and eat that meal. Check your sugar as often as your doctor has asked, especially when your routine changes.
