Thyronorm 125 Tablet contains Levothyroxine sodium 125 mcg (as Levothyroxine) tablet. It belongs to the Synthetic thyroid hormone (T4) class of medicines.

How Thyronorm 125 Tablet works

Levothyroxine is a synthetic form of thyroxine (T4), a natural thyroid hormone. It is converted to the active hormone triiodothyronine (T3) in tissues, which regulates metabolism, energy, growth and body temperature, thereby normalizing thyroid function and TSH levels.

How to take Thyronorm 125 Tablet

Oral tablet. Take once daily on an empty stomach, preferably in the morning 30–60 minutes before breakfast with water; take at the same time each day. Avoid taking with calcium/iron/antacids or multivitamins—keep a 4-hour gap. Dose is individualized based on TSH and clinical response; do not stop or change dose without doctor advice.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a racing heart, chest pain, tremor, fever and dangerous heart rhythm disturbance. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Thyronorm 125 Tablet

Most side effects of Thyronorm are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• sweating
• heat intolerance
• diarrhoea
• weight loss
• increased appetite
• menstrual irregularities
• muscle cramps

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Not for weight loss/obesity. Overdose can cause symptoms of hyperthyroidism and serious cardiac events; seek medical help if chest pain, severe palpitations or shortness of breath occur. Use caution in heart disease (angina, arrhythmia, heart failure), hypertension, elderly, and adrenal insufficiency (should be treated before starting). Monitor TSH/FT4 periodically; dose requirements may change with pregnancy, illness or interacting medicines. In diabetics, blood glucose control may change; monitor. In long-term/high doses, risk of reduced bone mineral density (especially postmenopausal women).

Do not take Thyronorm if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with an untreated overactive thyroid or untreated adrenal insufficiency.

Interactions with other medicines

Calcium salts,iron salts,aluminium/magnesium antacids,sucralfate,cholestyramine/colestipol,sevelamer (reduced absorption); proton pump inhibitors and dietary fiber/soy/coffee may reduce absorption; warfarin (increased anticoagulant effect); antidiabetic medicines/insulin (dose adjustment may be needed); digoxin (effect may decrease when euthyroid); amiodarone (affects thyroid function); enzyme inducers like phenytoin,carbamazepine,phenobarbital,rifampicin (may increase clearance); sertraline and other antidepressants may alter response.

Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original strip/blister and away from children.

Keep to the same brand where you can, and take it at the same time every morning. Have your thyroid blood test repeated as your doctor advises after any dose change.
