Thyronorm 75 Tablet contains Thyroxine (75mcg). It belongs to the Thyroid hormone (synthetic T4) class of medicines.

How Thyronorm 75 Tablet works

Levothyroxine is a synthetic form of thyroxine (T4), a natural thyroid hormone. It is converted to the active hormone (T3) in the body and restores normal thyroid hormone levels, helping regulate metabolism, energy, heart rate and temperature.

How to take Thyronorm 75 Tablet

Oral tablet. Take once daily exactly as prescribed, preferably in the morning on an empty stomach with water, 30–60 minutes before breakfast. Avoid taking with calcium/iron/antacids or high-fiber/soy foods close to the dose (separate by at least 4 hours). Do not stop or change dose without doctor advice; dose is adjusted based on TSH/T4 tests.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of THYronorm 75mcg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a racing heart, chest pain, tremor, fever and dangerous heart rhythm disturbance. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Thyronorm are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Use only under medical supervision; taking too much can cause hyperthyroid symptoms and strain the heart. Caution in heart disease (angina, arrhythmias), hypertension, elderly patients, adrenal insufficiency (must be treated first) and diabetes (may need dose adjustment of antidiabetics). Monitor TSH/T4 regularly; do not use for weight loss. Seek care for chest pain, severe palpitations, shortness of breath or signs of allergy.

Do not take Thyronorm if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with an untreated overactive thyroid or untreated adrenal insufficiency.

Interactions with other medicines

Calcium supplements,iron salts,aluminum/magnesium antacids,sucralfate,cholestyramine/colestipol,sevelamer (reduce absorption); rifampicin,carbamazepine,phenytoin,phenobarbital (increase metabolism); sertraline (may reduce effect); amiodarone (affects thyroid function); warfarin (may increase anticoagulant effect); antidiabetic medicines/insulin (dose adjustments may be needed); estrogen therapy/oral contraceptives (may increase requirement)

Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Thyronorm 75 Tablet

THYronorm 75mcg Tablet should be taken on an empty stomach (ideally, first thing in the morning). No food, milk, or tea should be taken 1 hour before and 2 hours after taking this medicine. It may take 6 to 8 weeks to get the full effect. For most people, THYronorm 75mcg Tablet can be a lifelong medication. Do not discontinue it without discussing your doctor. Inform your doctor if you have diarrhea, nervousness, irritability, sleep disturbances, shaking hands, or chest pain. Your doctor may adjust your dose. Leave a gap of at least 4 hours before taking any antacids, calcium or iron supplements, and multivitamins, as these may interfere with the effect of the medicine. Get your hormone levels checked regularly and inform your doctor if you notice a significant change in your body weight. The dose may need to be adjusted. Inform your doctor before changing the brand of THYronorm 75mcg Tablet as all brands may not have the same effect.
