Composition of Tobaflam Eye Drops

Tobaflam Eye Drops contains Loteprednol etabonate + Tobramycin. It belongs to the Eye drops and Antibacterial agent class of medicines.

Uses of Tobaflam Eye Drops

  • This medicine is used in the treatment of eye infection
  • eye inflammation
  • dry eyes
  • glaucoma
  • allergic conjunctivitis
  • bacterial infection
  • gut infection
  • skin infection and dental infection.

Key benefits

  • Delivers medicine straight to the eye
  • Very little reaches the rest of the body
  • Targets infections that other antibiotic groups do not reach

How Tobaflam Eye Drops works

This medicine combines 2 active ingredients: Loteprednol and Tobramycin. Loteprednol acts directly on the surface and inside of the eye where it is instilled. Tobramycin kills or stops the growth of the bacteria causing your infection.

How to take Tobaflam Eye Drops

Wash your hands. Tilt your head back, pull the lower lid down to make a small pocket and squeeze one drop into it, then close the eye gently for a minute. Do not let the dropper tip touch your eye, your fingers or any surface. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Apply it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the next application, skip the missed one — applying extra does not make up for it.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine is unlikely from eye use; flush the eye with clean water if too much is instilled. It can cause vomiting, severe loose motions and nerve symptoms. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Tobaflam Eye Drops

Most side effects of Tobaflam are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

  • Stinging on instillation
  • Blurred vision for a few minutes
  • Watering
  • Redness
  • Bitter taste
  • Nausea
  • Metallic taste
  • Loose motions
  • Stomach pain
  • Headache

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Never let the dropper tip touch your eye, eyelid or fingers — that is how a bottle becomes contaminated and causes a worse infection. Discard the bottle one month after you first open it, even if drops remain. Remove soft contact lenses before instilling drops and wait fifteen minutes before putting them back, unless the drops are specifically made for use with lenses. Seek same-day care for eye pain, marked redness, sensitivity to light or any loss of vision. Steroid eye drops must only be used under medical supervision — used wrongly they can raise eye pressure and damage sight. Glaucoma drops must be used every day for life; there are no symptoms until sight is already lost. Finish the whole course even after you feel better. Do not drink any alcohol while taking metronidazole, ornidazole or tinidazole, or for the period after the course that your doctor states — the combination causes severe flushing, vomiting and a racing heart. Report severe or watery loose motions during or after the course rather than treating them yourself. Tetracyclines stain developing teeth and are avoided in young children and in pregnancy. Antibiotics do not work against colds, flu or most sore throats, which are caused by viruses.

Do not take Tobaflam if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for anyone with a known allergy to the preservative in the preparation.

Interactions with other medicines

Beta blocker eye drops can be absorbed enough to slow the heart and tighten the airways — tell your doctor if you have asthma or a heart condition. Antacids, iron, zinc and calcium reduce the absorption of tetracyclines — separate them by a couple of hours. Tell your doctor if you take a blood thinner.

How to store Tobaflam Eye Drops

Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Discard the bottle one month after you first open it, even if some is left. Keep out of the reach of children.

Expert advice for Tobaflam Eye Drops

Press gently on the inner corner of the eye for a minute after instilling — this keeps the drop in the eye and reduces the bitter taste. Leave five minutes between two different drops. Never share eye drops with anyone. Space the doses evenly and complete the course. Take tetracyclines with a full glass of water and stay upright for half an hour afterwards. Never use a leftover antibiotic, or someone else's, for a new illness.
