How Tofadoz Gel works

Tofadoz Gel suppresses the overactive immune system by inhibiting certain enzymes called Janus kinases (JAKs). Thus, Tofadoz Gel blocks the production of pro-inflammatory substances (including cytokines) that contribute to the development of inflammation and other symptoms of atopic dermatitis. When used for androgenetic alopecia, Tofadoz Gel prevents the destruction of hair follicles by the overactive immune system. Applying Tofadoz Gel helps in hair regrowth in areas affected by androgenetic alopecia.

How to take Tofadoz Gel

This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the gel. Wash your hands after applying, unless hands are the affected area.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Tofadoz Gel, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can seriously suppress the bone marrow and damage the liver. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Tofadoz Gel

Most side effects of Tofadoz are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Medicines that suppress the immune system need regular blood tests — do not miss them. Report fever, sore throat, mouth ulcers or unusual bruising promptly if you are on an immune-suppressing medicine. Tell your doctor about any infection, and before any vaccination. Methotrexate for arthritis is taken ONCE A WEEK. Taking it daily by mistake is dangerous — check the day on your pack.

Do not take Tofadoz if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with an active serious infection, or with severe liver or bone-marrow disease. Several of these medicines must not be used in pregnancy.

Interactions with other medicines

Tell your doctor about all other medicines, especially anti-inflammatory painkillers and antibiotics. Live vaccines are generally avoided while on immune-suppressing treatment.

How to store Tofadoz Gel

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the tube tightly closed and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Tofadoz Gel

Apply Tofadoz Gel to the affected areas as a thin film two or three times daily, or as advised by your doctor. Do not apply to large areas of skin or near sensitive areas such as the private parts or on broken or injured skin. Remember to wash your hands after applying Tofadoz Gel, unless this is the area being treated. Avoid direct contact with the eyes, mouth, and nose, and rinse thoroughly in case of accidental contact or seek medical help in case of swallowing. Do not cover the area being treated with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects. Use a mild moisturizer regularly to overcome the skin dryness during the course of treatment in case of atopic dermatitis.
