Do not use in type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Alcohol (increases risk of hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis with metformin), insulin or sulfonylureas (increased hypoglycaemia risk), iodinated contrast media (metformin—lactic acidosis risk), diuretics/ACE inhibitors/ARBs/NSAIDs (may affect kidney function), cimetidine (may increase metformin levels), corticosteroids and some antipsychotics (may raise blood sugar)
