Composition of Zipant -D SR

Zipant -D SR contains Pantoprazole 40 mg (as enteric-coated), Domperidone 30 mg (as sustained release) capsule. It belongs to the Proton pump inhibitor + Prokinetic (peripheral D2 antagonist) class of medicines.

How Zipant -D SR works

Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that reduces stomach acid by blocking the H+/K+ ATPase pump in gastric parietal cells. Domperidone is a peripheral dopamine (D2) antagonist that increases gastric motility and helps relieve nausea by enhancing gastric emptying.

How to take Zipant -D SR

Take as directed by doctor. Usually 1 capsule once daily, preferably 30 minutes before breakfast; swallow whole and do not crush/chew (SR/enteric-coated).

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Zipant -D SR as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Zipant -D SR than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Zipant -D SR

Most side effects of Zipant -D SR are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Headache
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• nausea
• dry mouth
• dizziness
• constipation
• flatulence

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Zipant -D SR

Warnings and precautions

Use with caution in liver disease. Domperidone may increase risk of QT prolongation/serious arrhythmias—avoid in patients with known QT prolongation, significant electrolyte disturbances, or underlying cardiac disease; do not exceed prescribed dose. Long-term PPI use may be associated with low magnesium/vitamin B12, bone fracture risk, and C. difficile-associated diarrhoea; report persistent diarrhoea. Seek medical advice if alarm symptoms occur (weight loss, vomiting blood, black stools, difficulty swallowing).

Interactions with other medicines

QT-prolonging drugs (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol, certain antipsychotics), strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, erythromycin/clarithromycin, ritonavir) increase domperidone levels; drugs needing acidic pH for absorption (e.g., ketoconazole, atazanavir), warfarin (monitor), methotrexate (high-dose), digoxin
