Zofix 200 contains Cefixime (200mg). It belongs to the Third-generation cephalosporin (beta-lactam antibiotic) class of medicines.

How Zofix 200 works

Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to weakening of the cell wall and bacterial death.

Side effects of Zofix 200

Most side effects of Zofix are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Diarrhoea
• nausea
• vomiting
• abdominal pain
• indigestion
• headache
• dizziness
• skin rash
• itching
• increased liver enzymes

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Use only for bacterial infections. Tell your doctor if you have allergy to cephalosporins/penicillins (risk of cross-allergy). Use with caution in kidney disease (dose adjustment may be needed) and history of colitis/antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Stop and seek medical help for severe rash, breathing difficulty, facial swelling, or persistent/severe diarrhoea (possible C. difficile).

Do not take Zofix if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for anyone with a known allergy to cephalosporin antibiotics.

Interactions with other medicines

Warfarin/other anticoagulants (may increase bleeding risk/INR), Probenecid (may increase cefixime levels), Live typhoid vaccine (reduced vaccine effect), Antacids containing aluminium/magnesium (may reduce absorption—separate dosing), Carbamazepine (levels may increase)

How to store Zofix 200

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Zofix 200

Take Zofix 200 Tablet exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if you start feeling better. Stopping Zofix 200 Tablet too early may allow the infection to return and become harder to treat. Drink plenty of fluids while taking Zofix 200 Tablet, especially if fever or infection-related dehydration is present. Diarrhea may occur while taking Zofix 200 Tablet, but it usually resolves after completing the treatment course. Use oral rehydration fluids if diarrhea occurs, and contact your doctor if it becomes severe or bloody. Inform your doctor if you have a history of allergy to penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics before taking Zofix 200 Tablet. Stop taking Zofix 200 Tablet and seek immediate medical help if you develop a rash, itching, swelling of the face or mouth, or difficulty breathing. Inform your doctor if you are taking blood thinners or other medicines that may interact with antibiotics. Consult your doctor if symptoms do not improve within a few days of starting Zofix 200 Tablet. Do not use leftover antibiotics or share Zofix 200 Tablet with others. Report symptoms such as vaginal itching or discharge that may occur due to secondary yeast infection after antibiotic use.
