A substitute contains the same active ingredient (salt), in the same strength, as Zoryl 0.5 mg Tablet. The medicine inside is the same — the brand name, manufacturer and price are what differ.
All medicines sold in India, branded or generic, must meet the quality standards set by the national drug regulator (CDSCO). A lower price does not mean lower quality.
Please confirm with your doctor or pharmacist before switching brands — they will check that the strength and form match your prescription.
Zoryl 0.5 mg Tablet contains Glimepiride 0.5 mg. It belongs to the Sulfonylurea class of medicines.
Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea that stimulates the pancreas to release insulin. It also improves peripheral insulin sensitivity, thereby lowering blood glucose levels.
Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily with breakfast or the first main meal. Swallow with water; do not skip meals after taking it. Dose is individualized based on blood glucose and HbA1c; monitor sugars regularly.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
Take the missed dose of Zoryl as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.
Taking more Zoryl than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Zoryl are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
| Pregnancy | Not recommended; consult doctor (insulin is preferred in pregnancy). |
|---|---|
| Alcohol | Avoid (may cause/ worsen hypoglycaemia). |
| Habit forming | No |
Risk of hypoglycaemia—more likely with missed meals, excessive exercise, alcohol intake, elderly patients, liver/kidney impairment, or when combined with other antidiabetics. Use with caution in hepatic or renal disease; dose adjustment/close monitoring may be required. Avoid driving/operating machinery if you experience symptoms of low blood sugar. Inform doctor if you have sulfonamide allergy, G6PD deficiency (risk of haemolysis), severe infection, trauma or surgery (may require insulin). Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Other antidiabetics (insulin, metformin) may increase hypoglycaemia risk; beta-blockers may mask hypoglycaemia symptoms; ACE inhibitors can potentiate glucose-lowering effect; corticosteroids, thiazide/loop diuretics, oral contraceptives, thyroid hormones and sympathomimetics may raise glucose; azole antifungals (e.g., fluconazole), macrolides, chloramphenicol may increase effect; rifampicin, phenytoin, carbamazepine may reduce effect; warfarin interaction possible—monitor INR; alcohol increases hypoglycaemia risk.
Store below 25°C in a dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
