How Zuglimin 500 mg Tablet works

Metformin is a biguanide antidiabetic. It reduces glucose production in the liver, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity to increase peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.

How to take Zuglimin 500 mg Tablet

Take by mouth as prescribed, preferably with meals to reduce stomach upset. Swallow tablet with water; do not crush/chew unless advised. Dose is individualized; regular monitoring of blood glucose/HbA1c is recommended.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

Warnings and precautions

Use with caution in kidney impairment; dose adjustment/avoid may be needed based on eGFR. Temporarily stop before/after iodinated contrast procedures and major surgery as advised. Use caution in liver disease, alcohol use, dehydration, and in elderly. Monitor renal function periodically and consider vitamin B12 monitoring with long-term therapy.

Do not take Zuglimin if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases lactic acidosis risk), iodinated contrast media, cimetidine, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (e.g., topiramate/acetazolamide), diuretics, corticosteroids, thyroid hormones, sympathomimetics, other antidiabetic drugs/insulin (increased hypoglycaemia risk when combined)
