Type 2 diabetes mellitus (to control high blood sugar) along with diet and exercise; may be used alone or with other antidiabetic medicines.
Metformin is a biguanide antidiabetic. It reduces glucose production in the liver, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity to increase peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.
Take by mouth as prescribed, preferably with meals to reduce stomach upset. Swallow tablet with water; do not crush/chew unless advised. Dose is individualized; regular monitoring of blood glucose/HbA1c is recommended.
Common side effects of ZUGLIMIN 500MG TAB 10`S may include:
Risk of lactic acidosis (rare but serious)—seek urgent care if deep/rapid breathing, severe weakness, muscle pain, abdominal pain, or drowsiness occurs. Use with caution in kidney impairment; dose adjustment/avoid may be needed based on eGFR. Temporarily stop before/after iodinated contrast procedures and major surgery as advised. Use caution in liver disease, alcohol use, dehydration, and in elderly. Monitor renal function periodically and consider vitamin B12 monitoring with long-term therapy.
