Zukanorm M SR 1000 Tablet contains Metformin hydrochloride 1000 mg (Sustained Release). It belongs to the Biguanide (insulin sensitizer) class of medicines.

How to take Zukanorm M SR 1000 Tablet

Missed dose and overdose

Warnings and precautions

Risk of lactic acidosis (rare but serious), especially in kidney impairment, severe dehydration, sepsis, hypoxia, or excessive alcohol intake. Kidney function (eGFR/serum creatinine) should be assessed before and during therapy; dose adjustment/avoidance may be needed in renal impairment. Temporarily stop before iodinated contrast studies and major surgery as advised by doctor. Seek urgent care for symptoms like deep/rapid breathing, severe weakness, muscle pain, unusual sleepiness, abdominal pain, or persistent vomiting.

Do not take Zukanorm M SR if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases lactic acidosis risk), iodinated contrast media, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (e.g., topiramate, acetazolamide), cimetidine, diuretics, corticosteroids, thyroid hormones, sympathomimetics, oral contraceptives, antipsychotics, rifampicin, ACE inhibitors and other glucose-lowering drugs/insulin (may increase hypoglycemia risk when combined)
