Zyrcold Syrup is used for relief of common cold and flu symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, nasal congestion, watery eyes, fever, headache, and body aches.
Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated September 2026
Zyrcold Syrup contains Cetirizine + Ambroxol. It belongs to the Combination medicine (typically antihistamine + analgesic/antipyretic + decongestant) class of medicines.
Zyrcold Syrup is typically a combination cold preparation. It usually works by blocking histamine to reduce allergy-like symptoms (runny nose, sneezing), constricting nasal blood vessels to relieve congestion, and reducing fever/pain by inhibiting prostaglandin production.
Use as directed by a doctor/label. Measure with a dosing cup/spoon; take at the same times each day. Can be taken with or without food; take with food if it upsets your stomach. Do not exceed the recommended dose or combine with other cold/flu products containing similar ingredients (especially paracetamol).
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.
An overdose of this medicine can cause severe drowsiness, a fast heartbeat, confusion and, in children, agitation and fits. It can cause vomiting, severe drowsiness, a racing heart and, with codeine, dangerously slow breathing. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Most side effects of Zyrcold are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
| Pregnancy | Consult doctor |
|---|---|
| Breastfeeding | Consult your doctor before using this while breastfeeding. |
| Alcohol | Avoid |
| Driving | May cause drowsiness or affect your concentration. Do not drive until you know how it affects you. |
| Kidney | Use with caution if you have kidney disease — your doctor may adjust the dose or monitor your kidney function. |
| Liver | Use with caution if you have liver disease — your doctor may adjust the dose or monitor your liver function. |
| Habit forming | No |
May cause drowsiness—avoid driving/operating machinery. Do not use more than recommended; overdose (especially of paracetamol) can damage the liver. Use with caution in liver disease, kidney disease, glaucoma, enlarged prostate/urinary retention, thyroid disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and asthma/COPD. Not recommended for self-medication in young children; consult a doctor for pediatric use. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist >3 days, high fever, rash, breathing difficulty, or severe sore throat occurs.
Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. The sedating antihistamines are not suitable for very young children, or for people with glaucoma or an enlarged prostate, without medical advice. Codeine-containing preparations are not for children, or for anyone with breathing difficulty.
Alcohol and other CNS depressants (increased drowsiness), other paracetamol-containing medicines (overdose risk), sedating antihistamines, MAO inhibitors and certain antidepressants (may increase side effects), antihypertensives (reduced effect with decongestants), warfarin (paracetamol with prolonged use may increase bleeding risk)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Keep tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children.
Taking it at bedtime reduces the impact of any drowsiness. Identify and avoid your triggers where you can — dust, pollen, cold air. Drink plenty of water — it thins mucus better than any syrup. Steam inhalation helps congestion and costs nothing. Measure the dose with the cup supplied.
