Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure); management of chronic stable angina and vasospastic (Prinzmetal) angina.

Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that relaxes blood vessels by inhibiting calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle. This lowers blood pressure and reduces the heart’s workload, improving blood flow and reducing angina symptoms.

Oral tablet. Take as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow with water; do not stop abruptly without medical advice.

Headache, dizziness, flushing, ankle/foot swelling (edema), palpitations, fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain

Use with caution in patients with low blood pressure, severe aortic stenosis, heart failure, liver impairment (may need dose adjustment), and elderly patients. May cause dizziness—avoid driving or operating machinery if affected. Seek medical help for severe swelling, fainting, or allergic reactions.

Other antihypertensives (additive BP lowering), simvastatin (limit simvastatin dose; increased levels), CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, clarithromycin, ritonavir) may increase amlodipine levels, CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin) may reduce effect, grapefruit juice (may increase effect in some patients)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
