Paracetamol (120mg/5ml)

Fever (including post-immunisation fever), mild to moderate pain such as headache, toothache, sore throat, earache, body ache, and pain associated with common cold/flu in children

Paracetamol inhibits prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system, which reduces pain perception. It also acts on the hypothalamic heat-regulating center to lower elevated body temperature.

Oral suspension. Shake well before use. Measure dose with a calibrated spoon/syringe. Usually given every 4–6 hours as needed; do not exceed 4 doses in 24 hours. Can be given with or without food (give after food/milk if stomach upset occurs). Dose is based on child’s weight/age—follow doctor’s advice/label instructions.

nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, rash, allergic reactions (rare)

Do not exceed recommended dose; overdose can cause severe liver damage. Avoid using with other paracetamol-containing medicines (cold/cough combinations) to prevent accidental overdose. Use with caution in liver disease, severe malnutrition, dehydration, or chronic alcohol exposure in caregivers. Seek medical help if fever persists >3 days, pain >5 days, or if symptoms worsen. Stop and seek care if rash, swelling, breathing difficulty, or signs of liver injury (persistent vomiting, jaundice, dark urine) occur.

Warfarin/other coumarin anticoagulants (with prolonged regular use), rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, isoniazid, alcohol, cholestyramine, metoclopramide/domperidone

Store below 25°C. Protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
