Self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) in people with diabetes; checking capillary blood glucose levels at home as advised by a doctor

The Contour Plus system uses electrochemical technology: glucose in the blood reacts on the test strip to generate an electrical signal. The meter converts this signal into a blood glucose reading for monitoring and treatment decisions.

Use only Contour Plus compatible test strips. Insert strip into meter, prick fingertip with lancing device, apply a small drop of capillary blood to the strip and wait for the reading. Follow the user manual for coding/calibration (if applicable), strip handling, and disposal of lancets; test frequency as advised by your clinician.

Pain at finger-prick site, minor bleeding, bruising, local skin irritation, infection risk if lancets are reused

For in-vitro diagnostic use only. Do not share lancing device/lancets; use a new sterile lancet each time. Readings may be inaccurate if strips are expired, stored improperly, or if hands are contaminated (e.g., sugar on fingers). Dehydration, poor circulation, shock, or severe illness can affect capillary readings—seek medical advice if results do not match symptoms. Keep small parts/strips away from children; dispose sharps safely.

Certain substances/conditions can interfere with glucose strip methods; refer to Contour Plus strip labeling for interference list (e.g., high/low hematocrit, some medications/sugars).

Store meter at room temperature in a clean, dry place. Keep test strips in original vial, tightly closed; protect from heat, direct sunlight and moisture; do not refrigerate/freeze strips; use within expiry and within stated period after opening (per vial label).
