High cholesterol (hypercholesterolaemia), mixed dyslipidaemia, high triglycerides; prevention of cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke) in high-risk patients

Atorvastatin inhibits HMG‑CoA reductase, reducing cholesterol synthesis in the liver. This increases LDL receptor activity and lowers LDL cholesterol and triglycerides while modestly raising HDL.

Tablet for oral use. Take once daily at the same time each day, with or without food, as prescribed. Continue diet and exercise; do not stop without medical advice.

Headache, nausea, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, constipation, muscle pain (myalgia), weakness, raised liver enzymes

Not recommended in pregnancy or breastfeeding. Use with caution in liver disease, heavy alcohol use, hypothyroidism, kidney impairment, and in the elderly due to risk of muscle injury; report unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, weakness, or dark urine. Liver function tests may be needed before and during therapy. Avoid grapefruit juice or keep intake minimal as it may increase atorvastatin levels.

Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (clarithromycin, erythromycin, ketoconazole/itraconazole, ritonavir/cobicistat), cyclosporine, gemfibrozil and other fibrates, niacin (high dose), ezetimibe (↑ myopathy risk), amiodarone, verapamil/diltiazem, digoxin, warfarin, colchicine, grapefruit juice

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
