Monograph
Capsule
Treatment and prevention of vitamin D deficiency, adjunct in calcium deficiency and bone health disorders such as osteopenia/osteoporosis, supportive therapy in rickets/osteomalacia (as advised).
Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is converted in the body to active vitamin D, which increases absorption of calcium and phosphate from the intestine. It helps maintain normal blood calcium levels and supports bone mineralization and muscle function.
Capsule for oral use. Take as prescribed by the doctor; commonly taken once weekly or once monthly depending on strength and deficiency status. Swallow whole with water, preferably after food (fat-containing meal improves absorption). Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, headache, weakness, increased thirst, increased urination
Use with caution in kidney disease, kidney stones, hypercalcemia, hypervitaminosis D, sarcoidosis or other granulomatous disorders. Excess vitamin D can cause high calcium levels; monitor serum calcium/25(OH)D if on high-dose or long-term therapy. Consult a doctor before use in children, elderly, or if taking calcium supplements. Seek medical help if symptoms of hypercalcemia occur (persistent nausea/vomiting, confusion, severe weakness, palpitations).
Thiazide diuretics (may increase risk of hypercalcemia), digoxin/cardiac glycosides (arrhythmia risk with hypercalcemia), antiepileptics like phenytoin/phenobarbital/carbamazepine (reduced vitamin D effect), glucocorticoids (reduced effect), cholestyramine/orlistat (reduced absorption), aluminum- or magnesium-containing antacids with prolonged use (caution in renal impairment)
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from light and moisture. Keep in original blister/strip. Keep out of reach of children.
