Monograph
Tablet
Prevention and treatment of calcium and vitamin D deficiency, osteoporosis/osteopenia support, bone health in elderly and postmenopausal women, supplementation during periods of increased requirement (as advised).
Calcium provides the key mineral required for bone mineralization. Vitamin D3 increases intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphate, supporting bone strength. Added minerals/vitamins like magnesium, zinc and vitamin K2 support bone metabolism and maintenance.
Oral tablet. Usually taken once daily or as directed by physician, preferably after food. Swallow with water; do not exceed recommended dose. Keep a gap of 2–4 hours from thyroid medicines, iron, and certain antibiotics.
Constipation, bloating, gas, nausea, stomach upset, metallic taste (rare)
Use with caution in kidney disease, history of kidney stones, hypercalcemia, hyperparathyroidism, or sarcoidosis. Overuse may cause high calcium levels (symptoms: nausea, vomiting, constipation, confusion, increased urination). Consult doctor if on long-term supplementation or if taking other calcium/vitamin D products.
Levothyroxine (reduced absorption), tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones (reduced antibiotic absorption), bisphosphonates (reduced absorption), iron salts (reduced absorption), thiazide diuretics (increased risk of hypercalcemia), digoxin (arrhythmia risk with hypercalcemia), anticonvulsants/corticosteroids (may reduce vitamin D effect)
