Used for gastric decompression, enteral feeding, and aspiration of gastric contents through the nose (nasogastric intubation) in hospital/clinical settings.

A Ryle’s tube is a flexible hollow tube inserted through the nostril into the stomach. It enables passage of feeds/fluids or drainage/aspiration of gastric contents to relieve distension and prevent vomiting/aspiration as clinically indicated.

Use only by trained healthcare professionals. Select appropriate size (14 FG); lubricate and insert nasally under standard aseptic technique, confirm placement as per protocol (e.g., pH/aspirate/X-ray), then connect to feeding set or suction as prescribed; secure tube and monitor patient. Single-use; do not reuse.

Nasal irritation, sore throat, nausea, gagging, epistaxis (nosebleed), abdominal discomfort, aspiration (if misplaced)

Ensure correct placement before feeding/medication administration to avoid aspiration. Contraindicated/avoid in suspected base of skull fracture or severe facial trauma; use caution in esophageal varices/strictures and coagulopathy. Monitor for tube blockage, displacement, mucosal injury, and signs of aspiration. Use sterile, single-use device; do not use if pack is damaged; dispose as biomedical waste.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep in original sterile packaging until use.
