Monograph
Chlorhexidine Gluconate 0.3% w/v + Cetrimide 3% w/v (antiseptic/disinfectant liquid)
Antiseptic for cleansing and disinfecting minor cuts, wounds, abrasions, burns and insect bites; skin disinfection/first-aid use; can be used as a general household disinfectant when diluted as directed on label.
Chlorhexidine is a broad-spectrum antiseptic that disrupts bacterial cell membranes and precipitates cellular contents. Cetrimide is a quaternary ammonium compound that acts as a surfactant and damages microbial cell membranes, enhancing cleansing and antimicrobial action.
For external use only. Apply to the affected area after cleaning; may be used diluted with water as per label directions for wound/skin cleansing or general disinfection. Avoid covering tightly unless advised; wash hands after use.
Skin irritation, burning or stinging, redness, itching, dryness, allergic reaction (rash, swelling)
External use only. Do not use in eyes, ears (especially if eardrum perforated), mouth or on large/deep wounds or severe burns unless advised by a doctor. Stop use and seek medical advice if irritation/allergy occurs. Keep away from children; if swallowed seek medical help. Do not mix with soaps/detergents or other antiseptics as effectiveness may reduce.
Soaps and anionic detergents (reduce chlorhexidine activity), other topical antiseptics/disinfectants (possible reduced efficacy/irritation), iodine-containing products (may reduce activity when used together)
Store at room temperature, protected from heat and direct sunlight. Keep container tightly closed and away from moisture/contamination.
Savlon Antiseptic Liquid (Johnson & Johnson), Dettol Antiseptic Liquid (chloroxylenol), Cipladine Solution (povidone-iodine), Betadine Solution (povidone-iodine), Dermi 5 Antiseptic Liquid (chlorhexidine+cetrimide)
