Bacterial infections such as upper and lower respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis/tonsillitis, bronchitis), ear infections (otitis media), urinary tract infections, and enteric fever (typhoid) as prescribed.
How It Works
Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis (binding to penicillin-binding proteins), leading to cell death. It is effective against susceptible bacteria and will not treat viral infections.
Directions for Use
Dispersible tablet: dissolve in a small amount of water and drink immediately (or chew if advised). Take exactly as prescribed, with or without food; taking after food may reduce stomach upset. Complete the full course even if you feel better; do not skip doses.
Use only for bacterial infections. Tell your doctor if you have allergy to cephalosporins/penicillins, history of severe allergy, kidney disease, colitis/diarrhoea, or liver problems. Antibiotic-associated diarrhoea (including C. difficile) can occur—seek medical help for severe/persistent diarrhoea or blood in stools. Dose adjustment may be needed in renal impairment. Stop and seek urgent care if signs of serious allergy (swelling, breathing difficulty, severe rash) occur.
