How Acnedap Gel works

acnedap Gel is an antibiotic. It works by stopping the production of folic acid in acne-causing bacteria (P. acnes), thereby stopping their growth. In addition, its antiinflammatory effects help reduce redness and swelling due to acne.

How to take Acnedap Gel

This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the gel. Wash your hands after applying, unless hands are the affected area.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of acnedap Gel, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe liver injury, confusion and fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Acnedap Gel

Most side effects of Acnedap are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Safety advice for Acnedap Gel

Warnings and precautions

TB treatment must be taken every day for the whole course, usually six months or more. Stopping early is the main cause of drug-resistant TB, which is far harder to treat. Rifampicin turns urine, sweat and tears orange-red. This is harmless, but it permanently stains soft contact lenses. Report yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, persistent vomiting or severe tiredness at once — the liver needs checking. Report any change in vision, including colour vision, immediately if you are on ethambutol. Rifampicin makes hormonal contraception unreliable. Use an additional method throughout and for a period after the course.

Do not take Acnedap if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Your doctor will adjust or change the regimen in significant liver disease.

Interactions with other medicines

Rifampicin reduces the effect of a very large number of medicines, including contraceptives, blood thinners, steroids, some heart and HIV medicines. Vitamin B6 is usually given alongside isoniazid to prevent nerve damage — take it as prescribed.

How to store Acnedap Gel

Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Close the cap tightly after each use. Keep out of the reach of children.

You have been prescribed acnedap Gel for the treatment of acne. Apply it precisely on the affected area as instructed by your doctor. Take care to avoid getting the gel in the eyes, mouth or nose. If it happens, rinse it out with plenty of warm water. Do not apply it on broken, infected or sunburnt areas of skin. It should not be used in children less than 12 years of age. Do not use more amount or more often than recommended as that will not make it any more effective but may irritate your skin. It may cause dryness and itching of the skin being treated. Inform your doctor if this bothers you. Stop using acnedap Gel and inform your doctor if your lips, nail beds, or the inside of your mouth turns grey or blue.
