Composition of Amifru 40 Tablet

Amifru 40 Tablet contains Furosemide (40mg) + Amiloride (5mg). It belongs to the Loop diuretic + Potassium-sparing diuretic (ENaC blocker) class of medicines.

• Treatment of edema (fluid retention) associated with heart failure
• liver cirrhosis or kidney disease; management of hypertension where a diuretic combination is appropriate

How Amifru 40 Tablet works

Furosemide is a loop diuretic that increases excretion of sodium, chloride and water by inhibiting the Na-K-2Cl transporter in the loop of Henle. Amiloride is a potassium-sparing diuretic that blocks epithelial sodium channels in the distal tubule, helping prevent potassium loss and enhancing diuresis.

How to take Amifru 40 Tablet

Take as prescribed by the doctor, preferably in the morning to avoid nighttime urination. Swallow the tablet with water; may be taken with or without food. Do not stop or change dose without medical advice; regular monitoring of electrolytes and kidney function may be needed.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe dehydration, a sharp fall in blood pressure and dangerous salt imbalances. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Amifru are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• muscle cramps

• increased uric acid

Warnings and precautions

Risk of dehydration and electrolyte disturbances; monitor sodium, potassium, magnesium and kidney function. May cause dizziness—use caution while driving. Use with caution in kidney or liver impairment, diabetes, gout and in elderly. Avoid if anuric (not passing urine). Hyperkalemia risk increases with kidney disease or when used with potassium supplements/other potassium-sparing medicines.

Do not take Amifru if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people who are unable to pass urine, or who are severely dehydrated.

Interactions with other medicines

ACE inhibitors/ARBs (hyperkalemia, hypotension), potassium supplements or salt substitutes (hyperkalemia), other diuretics (excess diuresis/electrolyte loss), NSAIDs (reduced effect, kidney risk), lithium (increased lithium levels/toxicity), digoxin (arrhythmias with electrolyte imbalance), aminoglycosides/cisplatin (increased ototoxicity), corticosteroids (electrolyte imbalance)
