Composition of Ampanel 2 Tablet

Ampanel 2 Tablet contains Perampanel (2mg). It belongs to the AMPA receptor antagonist (antiepileptic drug) class of medicines.

• Treatment of epilepsy: adjunct therapy for partial-onset (focal) seizures with or without secondary generalization
• and primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures (as prescribed by neurologist)

How Ampanel 2 Tablet works

Perampanel is an antiepileptic that selectively blocks AMPA-type glutamate receptors in the brain. This reduces excessive excitatory neurotransmission and helps prevent the abnormal electrical activity that triggers seizures.

How to take Ampanel 2 Tablet

Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at bedtime; may be taken with or without food. Swallow tablet whole with water. Do not stop abruptly; dose is usually titrated gradually. If a dose is missed, take the next dose at the usual time (do not double).

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Ampanel 2 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause deep unconsciousness, slowed breathing and dangerous heart rhythm disturbance. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Ampanel 2 Tablet

Most side effects of Ampanel are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

May cause dizziness, sleepiness and impaired coordination—avoid driving/operating machinery until effects are known. Risk of serious psychiatric/behavioral reactions (aggression, anger, hostility, suicidal thoughts); seek medical help if mood/behavior changes occur. Use caution in elderly and those at risk of falls. Do not stop suddenly due to risk of increased seizures. Use caution in hepatic impairment; dose adjustment may be required.

Do not take Ampanel if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Valproate-containing medicines are contraindicated in pregnancy for epilepsy unless no alternative exists, and in all women of childbearing potential without a pregnancy prevention programme. Several are not suitable in significant liver disease.

Interactions with other medicines

Enzyme-inducing antiepileptics (carbamazepine, phenytoin, oxcarbazepine) may reduce perampanel levels; valproate and levetiracetam generally have minimal effect. Alcohol and other CNS depressants increase sedation and dizziness. May reduce efficacy of hormonal contraceptives at higher doses—use additional contraception as advised.

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), in original pack, protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
