Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as acute bacterial sinusitis, otitis media, tonsillitis/pharyngitis, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, dental infections
Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death. Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects amoxicillin from degradation by beta-lactamase producing bacteria, thereby extending its spectrum.
Tablet (oral). Take exactly as prescribed by the doctor, usually at the start of a meal/with food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow with water; complete the full course even if you feel better. Do not skip doses.

Prescription-only (Schedule H). Do not use if allergic to penicillins/cephalosporins or if you have had jaundice/liver dysfunction with amoxicillin-clavulanate. Use with caution in liver disease, renal impairment (dose adjustment may be needed), infectious mononucleosis (higher risk of rash), and history of severe allergy. Seek urgent care for signs of anaphylaxis (wheezing, facial swelling), severe skin reactions, persistent/bloody diarrhoea (possible C. difficile), or jaundice. May reduce effectiveness of oral typhoid vaccine.
