A substitute contains the same active ingredient (salt), in the same strength, as Augpen Kid DT. The medicine inside is the same — the brand name, manufacturer and price are what differ.
All medicines sold in India, branded or generic, must meet the quality standards set by the national drug regulator (CDSCO). A lower price does not mean lower quality.
Please confirm with your doctor or pharmacist before switching brands — they will check that the strength and form match your prescription.
Augpen Kid DT contains Amoxycillin (200mg) + Clavulanic Acid (28.5mg). It belongs to the Penicillin antibiotic + beta-lactamase inhibitor (amoxicillin + clavulanate) class of medicines.
Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that kills bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects amoxicillin from enzymatic breakdown, broadening its activity against resistant bacteria.
Dispersible tablet: dissolve the tablet in a small amount of water and give immediately. Dose and duration should be as prescribed by the doctor based on child’s weight and infection severity. Can be taken with food to reduce stomach upset; give doses at evenly spaced intervals and complete the full course.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
Take the missed dose of Augpen Kid DT as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.
Taking more Augpen Kid DT than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Augpen Kid DT are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Prescription-only antibiotic—use only for suspected/confirmed bacterial infections. Do not use in patients with allergy to penicillins/cephalosporins or history of severe hypersensitivity. Use with caution in liver disease; monitor if prolonged therapy (risk of cholestatic hepatitis). Dose adjustment may be required in kidney impairment. Stop and seek care if severe rash, breathing difficulty, facial swelling, or severe/persistent diarrhoea occurs (possible C. difficile). May reduce effectiveness of oral typhoid vaccine.
Warfarin/other anticoagulants (may increase INR), methotrexate (increased toxicity), probenecid (increases amoxicillin levels), allopurinol (increased rash risk), mycophenolate mofetil (reduced active metabolite exposure), oral contraceptives (possible reduced efficacy—advise backup), live oral typhoid vaccine (reduced response)
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep tablets in original pack and out of reach of children.
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection. Your child may have a bitter taste in the mouth after the intake of Augpen Kid 200 mg/28.5 mg Tablet DT. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Augpen Kid 200 mg/28.5 mg Tablet DT until and unless prescribed by the doctor. You must also never share your child’s medicine with anyone else even if they show similar symptoms. Do not give Augpen Kid 200 mg/28.5 mg Tablet DT to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses. Never save medicine for future illnesses. It cannot be said whether the same medicine will work on future infections. Check ‘expiry’ before giving Augpen Kid 200 mg/28.5 mg Tablet DT to your child. Immediately discard all the expired medicines. Stop Augpen Kid 200 mg/28.5 mg Tablet DT immediately if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Report to the doctor without any delay.
