Composition of Azenate Nasal Spray

Azenate Nasal Spray contains Azelastine (0.1%w/v) + Fluticasone (0.0357%w/v). It belongs to the Antihistamine / leukotriene antagonist and Inhaled bronchodilator / corticosteroid class of medicines.

Uses of Azenate Nasal Spray

Azenate Nasal Spray is used for sneezing and runny nose due to allergies. It provides relief from moderate to severe persistent symptoms.

Key benefits

  • Fast relief of sneezing
  • running nose and itching
  • Non-sedating options are available
  • Usually taken once a day
  • Acts directly in the lungs with minimal effect elsewhere
  • Prevents attacks when used daily as a preventer
  • Portable and fast acting

How Azenate Nasal Spray works

Azenate Nasal Spray is a combination of two medicines: Fluticasone Propionate and Azelastine, which relieves sneezing and runny nose caused due to allergies (allergic rhinitis). Fluticasone Propionate is a steroid which works by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers that cause inflammation (swelling) and irritation in the nose. Azelastine is an antiallergic which relieves allergy symptoms like runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing.

How to take Azenate Nasal Spray

Use this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Insert the bottle tip into one nostril and close the other nostril. Direct the spray away from the cartilage diving the two sides of your nose and toward the sides of your nostril. As you spray, breath gently and keep the head upright. Repeat in the other nostril.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Apply it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the next application, skip the missed one — applying extra does not make up for it.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe drowsiness, a fast heartbeat, confusion and, in children, agitation and fits. It can cause a racing heart, marked tremor, headache and a fall in blood potassium. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Azenate Nasal Spray

Warnings and precautions

Older antihistamines cause marked drowsiness — do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this affects you. Tell your doctor promptly about any change in mood, sleep, agitation or unusual thoughts while taking montelukast; this is uncommon but recognised. This relieves the symptoms of an allergy; it does not treat the cause, and it is not a treatment for an acute asthma attack. Seek emergency care for swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, or difficulty breathing. Know which of your inhalers is the reliever and which is the preventer. A preventer must be used every day even when you feel well; a reliever is for symptoms. Seek emergency care if your reliever is not working, if you cannot speak a full sentence, or if you are using the reliever far more often than usual. Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after every steroid inhaler dose to prevent thrush and hoarseness. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to watch your technique — poor technique is the commonest reason an inhaler seems not to work. Use a spacer if one has been advised, particularly for children.

Do not take Azenate Nasal if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. The sedating antihistamines are not suitable for very young children, or for people with glaucoma or an enlarged prostate, without medical advice. Not for anyone with a known allergy to the propellant used in the inhaler.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol, sleeping tablets and other sedating medicines add to the drowsiness. Tell your doctor about all cold and cough preparations — many already contain an antihistamine. Beta blockers, including eye drops for glaucoma, can tighten the airways and reduce the effect of your reliever.

How to store Azenate Nasal Spray

Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Do not freeze. Keep out of the reach of children.
