Metformin hydrochloride 500 mg (as immediate-release tablet)
Cididap-M 500 Tablet is used for type 2 diabetes mellitus (to control high blood sugar), prediabetes (as advised), polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) with insulin resistance (off-label/when prescribed).
Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated August 2026
Cididap-M 500 Tablet contains Metformin hydrochloride 500 mg (as immediate-release tablet). It belongs to the Biguanide class of medicines.
Metformin improves insulin sensitivity and decreases glucose production by the liver (hepatic gluconeogenesis). It also reduces intestinal absorption of glucose and improves peripheral uptake, helping lower blood sugar without usually causing hypoglycaemia when used alone.
Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually with or after meals to reduce stomach upset. Swallow with water; do not crush unless advised. Dose is individualized; regular monitoring of blood glucose/HbA1c is recommended.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
Take the missed dose of Cididap-M as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.
Taking more Cididap-M than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Cididap-M are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
