Composition of Dubinor Spray

Dubinor Spray contains Gabapentin (8%w/w) + Methyl Salicylate (5%w/w) + Diclofenac (4.64%w/w). It belongs to the Gabapentinoid, Counter-irritant / topical anti-inflammatory and Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug class of medicines.

Uses of Dubinor Spray

  • This medicine is used in the treatment of nerve pain
  • diabetic neuropathy
  • pain after shingles
  • fibromyalgia
  • epilepsy
  • muscle pain
  • joint pain
  • sprains and strains
  • backache
  • pain
  • inflammation
  • arthritis
  • fever and period pain.

Key benefits

  • Works on nerve pain that ordinary painkillers do not touch
  • Also used to control fits
  • Acts where it is applied
  • Much less whole-body exposure than a tablet
  • Relieves pain and the swelling that causes it
  • Effective in arthritis and injury

How Dubinor Spray works

This medicine combines 3 active ingredients: Gabapentin, Methyl Salicylate and Diclofenac. Gabapentin calms the over-active nerve signals that cause burning, shooting and tingling pain. Methyl Salicylate is applied to the skin over a painful area, where it produces a warming or cooling sensation and reduces local pain and inflammation. Diclofenac blocks the chemicals your body makes at a site of injury or inflammation, which reduces pain, swelling and fever.

How to take Dubinor Spray

Use as directed on the pack, holding the nozzle the distance stated. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Apply it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the next application, skip the missed one — applying extra does not make up for it.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause deep drowsiness, confusion, unsteadiness and slowed breathing, especially with an opioid or alcohol. It is unlikely from skin use, but swallowing these preparations can be serious, particularly in children. It can cause stomach bleeding, kidney failure, drowsiness and fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Dubinor Spray

Most side effects of Dubinor are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Swelling of the ankles and feet
  • Weight gain
  • Blurred vision
  • Unsteadiness
  • Burning or stinging
  • Redness
  • Skin irritation
  • Rash
  • Indigestion
  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea
  • Heartburn

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

This medicine causes drowsiness and unsteadiness, particularly when you start it or the dose goes up. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you. Never stop it suddenly. Stopping abruptly can cause anxiety, sleeplessness, sweating and, in people taking it for epilepsy, fits. Your doctor will taper it. Tell your doctor about any change in mood or any thoughts of harming yourself. The dose is usually built up slowly from a low starting point — follow the schedule your doctor gave you rather than jumping to the full dose. Pregabalin comes under Schedule H1 from 16 November 2026 and will then need a prescription and a pharmacy register entry. For external use only. Keep it away from the eyes, mouth and broken skin. Do not apply a heating pad or hot water bottle over the treated area — this can cause a burn. Do not bandage tightly over it unless your doctor has told you to. Wash your hands thoroughly after applying, unless your hands are the area being treated. Stop if the skin becomes severely irritated or blisters. Take it with or just after food, and for the shortest time that works. Stop and seek urgent care for black or tarry stools, vomiting blood, or severe stomach pain — this group can cause bleeding from the stomach. Long or high-dose use raises the risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney injury, particularly in older people and those already at risk. Avoid if you are dehydrated or have an illness with vomiting or loose motions — the kidneys are vulnerable then. Must be avoided in the last three months of pregnancy.

Do not take Dubinor if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for use on broken, infected or badly inflamed skin. Not for people with an active stomach ulcer, severe kidney or heart failure, or asthma triggered by aspirin or anti-inflammatory painkillers. Not in the third trimester of pregnancy.

Interactions with other medicines

Opioid painkillers, alcohol, sleeping tablets and antihistamines all add to the drowsiness, and the combination with opioids can dangerously slow breathing. Antacids reduce the absorption of gabapentin — separate them by a couple of hours. Topical anti-inflammatory gels add to the effect of the same medicine taken by mouth; tell your doctor if you use both. Combining with a blood thinner or aspirin sharply raises the bleeding risk. Reduces the effect of blood pressure medicines and water tablets, and together with them can harm the kidneys. Never take two anti-inflammatory painkillers at the same time.

How to store Dubinor Spray

Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep out of the reach of children.

Expert advice for Dubinor Spray

Take the larger part of the dose at night if drowsiness is a problem. Rise slowly from sitting or lying, especially in the first weeks. Keep your review appointment so the dose can be adjusted to the lowest that controls your pain. Use a small amount and rub it in well. See a doctor if the pain has not improved within the period stated on the pack. Use the lowest dose for the shortest period. If you need a painkiller regularly, see your doctor rather than continuing on your own. Paracetamol is the safer choice for simple fever and headache.
