Composition

Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) powder 4.4 g sachet (WHO formula): Glucose (anhydrous) 2.7 g, Sodium chloride 0.52 g, Potassium chloride 0.30 g, Trisodium citrate dihydrate 0.58 g (to make 200 mL solution)

Prevention and treatment of dehydration due to acute diarrhoea, vomiting, heat exhaustion, excessive sweating; fluid and electrolyte replacement in mild to moderate dehydration

How it works

ORS provides an optimum balance of glucose and electrolytes. Glucose enhances sodium (and water) absorption via intestinal sodium-glucose co-transport, helping restore body fluids and correct electrolyte imbalance.

Directions for use

Dissolve the entire 4.4 g sachet in 200 mL of clean drinking water (do not boil after mixing). Give small frequent sips; in vomiting, give 1–2 teaspoons every few minutes. Use within 24 hours of preparation; discard leftover solution. Continue feeding/breastfeeding and normal diet as advised.
