Empadoz M 12.5/1000 mg Tablet contains Empagliflozin 12.5 mg + Metformin (as Metformin Hydrochloride) 1000 mg. It belongs to the SGLT2 inhibitor + Biguanide class of medicines.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (to improve glycaemic control in adults) as an adjunct to diet and exercise; may be used when treatment with empagliflozin and metformin is appropriate.

How Empadoz M 12.5/1000 mg Tablet works

Empagliflozin is an SGLT2 inhibitor that lowers blood glucose by increasing urinary glucose excretion via the kidneys. Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity, reducing glucose absorption and improving peripheral uptake.

How to take Empadoz M 12.5/1000 mg Tablet

Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually with meals to reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole with water; do not crush/chew. Maintain adequate hydration; follow diet/exercise advice and monitor blood glucose regularly.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause dehydration and a fall in blood pressure. It can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Empadoz M 12.5/1000 mg are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal discomfort
• loss of appetite
• genital fungal infection
• urinary tract infection
• increased urination
• thirst
• dizziness
• low blood sugar (especially with insulin/sulfonylureas)

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Prescription-only antidiabetic. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—risk increases with kidney impairment, dehydration, severe infection, alcohol excess, liver disease, or hypoxia; stop and seek care if rapid breathing, severe weakness, abdominal pain, or unusual drowsiness occur. Empagliflozin can cause genital/urinary infections, dehydration/low BP, and rare ketoacidosis (can occur even with near-normal sugars); seek urgent care for nausea/vomiting, abdominal pain, breathlessness. Use caution in elderly, on diuretics, or with low blood pressure. Kidney function should be checked before and during therapy; not recommended in severe renal impairment. Temporarily stop around major surgery or serious illness; follow clinician advice. If contrast imaging is planned, metformin may need to be withheld as per medical guidance.

Do not take Empadoz M 12.5/1000 mg if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney disease. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Insulin and sulfonylureas (increased hypoglycaemia risk), diuretics (increased dehydration/hypotension), ACE inhibitors/ARBs (may enhance BP lowering), NSAIDs and other nephrotoxic drugs (renal risk), iodinated contrast media (lactic acidosis risk with metformin—may need temporary interruption), alcohol (increased lactic acidosis risk), carbonic anhydrase inhibitors e.g. topiramate (acidosis risk), corticosteroids and sympathomimetics (may raise glucose)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.

Take it in the morning so the extra urine does not disturb your sleep. Keep up your fluid intake and maintain genital hygiene.
