Etovil-600 mg contains Etodolac 600 mg (sustained/extended release) tablet. It belongs to the NSAID (preferential COX-2 inhibitor) class of medicines.

How Etovil-600 mg works

Etodolac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes and reduces prostaglandin production. This decreases inflammation, swelling, pain and fever.

How to take Etovil-600 mg

Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, preferably after food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew if it is SR/ER. Usually taken once daily for 600 mg SR, or as directed by physician.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause stomach bleeding, kidney failure, drowsiness and fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Etovil-600 mg

Most side effects of Etovil-600 mg are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• acidity/heartburn
• nausea
• vomiting
• abdominal pain
• indigestion
• diarrhoea
• dizziness
• headache
• swelling (edema)
• increased blood pressure
• rash

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

NSAIDs may cause stomach/intestinal bleeding or ulcers—risk higher in elderly, those with prior ulcers, alcohol use, or with steroids/anticoagulants. Can worsen kidney function and cause fluid retention; use caution in kidney disease, heart failure, dehydration, and uncontrolled hypertension. May increase risk of heart attack or stroke with long-term/high-dose use; use lowest effective dose for shortest duration. Avoid in known NSAID allergy/aspirin-sensitive asthma. Stop and seek care for black stools, vomiting blood, severe abdominal pain, chest pain, breathlessness, facial swelling, or severe rash. Avoid use after 20 weeks of pregnancy unless advised; contraindicated in last trimester.

Do not take Etovil-600 mg if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with an active stomach ulcer, severe kidney or heart failure, or asthma triggered by aspirin or anti-inflammatory painkillers. Not in the third trimester of pregnancy.

Interactions with other medicines

Anticoagulants/antiplatelets (warfarin, apixaban, clopidogrel, aspirin), SSRIs/SNRIs (sertraline, escitalopram, duloxetine), corticosteroids (prednisolone), other NSAIDs, ACE inhibitors/ARBs and diuretics (enalapril/losartan/furosemide) risk kidney injury, lithium, methotrexate, cyclosporine/tacrolimus, antihypertensives (reduced effect)

How to store Etovil-600 mg

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct light. Keep in original strip and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Etovil-600 mg

Use the lowest dose for the shortest period. If you need a painkiller regularly, see your doctor rather than continuing on your own. Paracetamol is the safer choice for simple fever and headache.
