Composition of Glimapex-M1 Tablet

Glimapex-M1 Tablet contains Glimepiride 1 mg + Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg (as sustained/extended release). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Biguanide class of medicines.

How Glimapex-M1 Tablet works

Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) increases insulin release from the pancreas and improves insulin sensitivity. Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and decreases intestinal glucose absorption while improving peripheral insulin uptake. Together they lower fasting and post-meal blood sugar.

How to take Glimapex-M1 Tablet

Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily with breakfast or the first main meal (or as advised). Swallow whole (do not crush/chew if extended-release). Regularly monitor blood glucose; follow diet and exercise plan.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe and prolonged low blood sugar, which may lead to fits or unconsciousness. It can cause a dangerous build-up of acid in the blood, with vomiting, severe weakness and laboured breathing. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Glimapex-M1 Tablet

Most side effects of Glimapex-M1 are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• diarrhoea
• abdominal discomfort
• loss of appetite
• headache
• dizziness
• weight gain
• metallic taste

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Risk of hypoglycaemia (higher with missed meals, alcohol, strenuous exercise, elderly); metformin-associated lactic acidosis is rare but serious—risk increases with kidney impairment, dehydration, severe infection, hypoxia, heart failure, liver disease, or excess alcohol. Check renal function before starting and periodically; avoid in severe renal impairment. Withhold metformin temporarily before/after iodinated contrast procedures and major surgery as advised. Use caution when driving/operating machinery due to hypoglycaemia risk.

Do not take Glimapex-M1 if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney or liver disease. Not for people with severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or an acute illness causing dehydration. Not for people who have had diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis risk), insulin/other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia), beta-blockers (may mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), corticosteroids/thiazide diuretics (may raise glucose), ACE inhibitors (may increase hypoglycaemia risk), NSAIDs and sulfonamides (may increase hypoglycaemia), cimetidine (may increase metformin levels), iodinated contrast media (risk of lactic acidosis—temporary stoppage), quinolones (glucose disturbances)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Glimapex-M1 Tablet

Take it shortly before a meal, and eat that meal. Check your sugar as often as your doctor has asked, especially when your routine changes. Take it with or just after food to reduce stomach upset. Keep taking it even when your sugar readings look normal — that is the medicine working. Continue your diet and physical activity; this medicine works alongside them, not instead of them.
