A substitute contains the same active ingredient (salt), in the same strength, as Glimigrand M2 Tablet. The medicine inside is the same — the brand name, manufacturer and price are what differ.
All medicines sold in India, branded or generic, must meet the quality standards set by the national drug regulator (CDSCO). A lower price does not mean lower quality.
Please confirm with your doctor or pharmacist before switching brands — they will check that the strength and form match your prescription.
Glimigrand M2 Tablet contains Glimepiride 2 mg + Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg (SR/PR). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Biguanide class of medicines.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (adult) when diet and exercise alone or single therapy is inadequate; helps control high blood sugar
Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) stimulates the pancreas to release insulin and improves the body’s response to insulin. Metformin (a biguanide) reduces glucose production in the liver and decreases intestinal absorption of glucose while improving insulin sensitivity.
Take orally as prescribed, usually once daily with breakfast or the first main meal. Swallow the tablet whole (especially if SR/PR); do not crush or chew. Monitor blood glucose regularly and follow diet/exercise advice.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
Take the missed dose of Glimigrand M2 as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.
Taking more Glimigrand M2 than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Glimigrand M2 are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Risk of hypoglycaemia (especially with missed meals, alcohol, strenuous exercise, elderly, or kidney/liver impairment); lactic acidosis risk with metformin (more likely in severe kidney disease, dehydration, severe infection, shock, alcohol misuse). Contraindicated in severe renal impairment; assess kidney function before and during therapy. Temporarily stop metformin before/after iodinated contrast procedures and major surgery as advised. Use caution in hepatic impairment and in patients with heart failure. Seek urgent care for symptoms of low sugar or lactic acidosis (unusual tiredness, muscle pain, rapid breathing, abdominal pain).
Alcohol (increases hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis risk), insulin/other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia), corticosteroids and thiazide diuretics (may raise glucose), beta-blockers (may mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), ACE inhibitors (may enhance glucose-lowering), quinolones (may alter glucose), rifampicin (may reduce sulfonylurea effect), azole antifungals/macrolides (may increase glimepiride effect), iodinated contrast media (increases lactic acidosis risk with metformin)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
