Metformin decreases the amount of glucose you absorb from your food and the amount of glucose made by the liver. Metformin also increases the body's response to insulin, a natural substance that controls the amount of glucose in the blood. Sitagliptin helps control blood sugar levels by increasing substances (incretins) in the body that make the pancreas release more insulin. It also signals the liver to stop producing sugar (glucose) when there is too much sugar in the blood.

Warnings and precautions

Drink enough water, especially in hot weather or if you have loose motions — this medicine makes you pass more urine. Seek urgent care for nausea with vomiting, stomach pain and deep rapid breathing, even if your sugar reading is normal. Report any pain, tenderness, redness or swelling in the genital area or perineum immediately — this is rare but needs same-day attention. Genital thrush is common; keep the area clean and dry and tell your doctor if it recurs. Stomach upset is common in the first two weeks and usually settles; taking it with food helps. Tell your doctor before any surgery or a scan that uses contrast dye — this medicine is usually stopped for a short time around them. Stop and seek urgent care if you develop deep rapid breathing, severe weakness, muscle pain or vomiting with cold clammy skin. This is rare but serious. Long-term use can lower vitamin B12, so your doctor may check it from time to time. Stop and see a doctor urgently if you get severe, persistent abdominal pain that spreads to your back, with or without vomiting. Tell your doctor if you develop severe or disabling joint pain. Blisters or peeling of the skin should be reported promptly.

Tell your doctor about water tablets, steroids, and any contrast dye scan. Alcohol increases the risk of the rare acid build-up and should be limited. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) may occur when Gluxit Trio 10/100/1000 Tablet SR is taken along with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol, or when delaying/skipping a meal. Check your blood sugar levels and have a snack/sugar source for immediate relief. If you get unusually thirsty, pass urine more frequently, or feel tired, let your doctor know. These are signs that there is too much sugar in your blood, and your dose may need adjusting.
