A substitute contains the same active ingredient (salt), in the same strength, as Glymin SR Tablet. The medicine inside is the same — the brand name, manufacturer and price are what differ.
All medicines sold in India, branded or generic, must meet the quality standards set by the national drug regulator (CDSCO). A lower price does not mean lower quality.
Please confirm with your doctor or pharmacist before switching brands — they will check that the strength and form match your prescription.
Glymin SR Tablet contains Metformin (500mg).
Treatment of Type 2 diabetes mellitus
Glymin 500mg Tablet SR works by lowering the excess glucose made by the liver and reducing the amount of glucose absorbed from food in the intestines. It also improves insulin sensitivity, which helps the body use insulin more effectively to move glucose from the blood into the cells for energy. This helps keep blood sugar levels under better control in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Glymin 500mg Tablet SR should be taken with or after food.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
If you miss a dose of Glymin 500mg Tablet SR, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Taking more Glymin SR than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Glymin SR are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about every medicine you take, including over-the-counter products, vitamins and herbal or ayurvedic preparations, before starting Glymin SR. Some combinations can change how Glymin SR works or raise the chance of side effects.
Store Glymin SR below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the pack tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date printed on the pack.
The chances of weight gain and low blood sugar are lower with this medicine as compared to other diabetes medicines. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) may occur when taken along with other antidiabetic medicines or alcohol, or on delaying/skipping a meal. Carry a sugar source with you for immediate relief. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any deep or rapid breathing, persistent nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain, as Glymin 500mg Tablet SR may cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis, which is an excess of lactic acid in the blood. Prolonged use of Glymin 500mg Tablet SR may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency, which may lead to anemia, causing fatigue, pale skin, shortness of breath, or headache. Notify your doctor if you experience any of these, as you may require supplements. Your doctor will monitor your blood sugar levels and kidney function regularly while you are taking this medication.
