Itzoft 200 mg Capsule contains Itraconazole 200 mg (capsule). It belongs to the Triazole antifungal class of medicines.

How Itzoft 200 mg Capsule works

Itraconazole is a triazole antifungal that inhibits fungal CYP450 enzyme (14-α demethylase), blocking ergosterol synthesis. This disrupts fungal cell membrane formation and inhibits fungal growth.

How to take Itzoft 200 mg Capsule

Capsule for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed; typically taken with food/after a full meal for better absorption. Swallow whole; do not open/crush. Take at the same time daily and complete the full course.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, liver injury and heart rhythm disturbance. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Itzoft are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• elevated liver enzymes

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Prescription medicine. Can cause serious liver problems—seek help for jaundice, dark urine, severe fatigue, persistent nausea/vomiting. Contraindicated/avoid in patients with heart failure or history of congestive heart failure (negative inotropic effect). Many significant drug interactions via CYP3A4—review all medicines before use. Use caution in liver disease, kidney disease, and in elderly. Stop and seek care for severe allergic reactions or severe skin rash.

Do not take Itzoft if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with active liver disease, and several are not for use in pregnancy. Itraconazole is not for people with heart failure.

Interactions with other medicines

Strong CYP3A4 substrates with risk of serious reactions (e.g., simvastatin/lovastatin, certain antiarrhythmics like quinidine/dofetilide, ergot alkaloids, cisapride, some benzodiazepines like oral midazolam/triazolam); rifampicin/rifabutin, phenytoin, carbamazepine (reduce itraconazole levels); proton pump inhibitors/H2 blockers/antacids (reduce absorption—separate dosing if needed); warfarin (↑bleeding risk), digoxin (↑levels), cyclosporine/tacrolimus (↑levels), some calcium channel blockers (↑levels/edema), certain HIV drugs (dose adjustments).

Store below 25°C, protected from moisture and light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Itzoft 200 mg Capsule

Complete the full course, however long. Keep the skin clean and dry, wash clothes and bedding in hot water, and treat family members if they are affected, or reinfection is very likely.
