Metrodinazole 100 ml (Alkem Metro) is used for this medicine is used in the treatment of bacterial infection, gut infection, skin infection, dental infection, nutritional deficiency and dietary supplementation.
Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated October 2026
Metrodinazole 100 ml (Alkem Metro) contains Metronidazole (500mg) + Sodium Chloride (800mg). It belongs to the Antibacterial agent and Vitamin and mineral supplement class of medicines.
This medicine combines 2 active ingredients: Metronidazole and Sodium. Metronidazole kills or stops the growth of the bacteria causing your infection. Sodium supplies a vitamin, mineral or nutrient that your diet may not be providing in sufficient amount.
Use this medicine as your doctor has directed. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.
An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, severe loose motions and nerve symptoms. It can cause vomiting and stomach pain, and with iron can be dangerous, especially in children. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Most side effects of Metrodinazole are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
| Pregnancy | Consult your doctor before using this in pregnancy. |
|---|---|
| Breastfeeding | Consult your doctor before using this while breastfeeding. |
| Alcohol | Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine. |
| Driving | May cause drowsiness or affect your concentration. Do not drive until you know how it affects you. |
| Kidney | Consult your doctor if you have kidney disease. |
| Liver | Consult your doctor if you have liver disease. |
| Habit forming | No |
Finish the whole course even after you feel better. Do not drink any alcohol while taking metronidazole, ornidazole or tinidazole, or for the period after the course that your doctor states — the combination causes severe flushing, vomiting and a racing heart. Report severe or watery loose motions during or after the course rather than treating them yourself. Tetracyclines stain developing teeth and are avoided in young children and in pregnancy. Antibiotics do not work against colds, flu or most sore throats, which are caused by viruses. A supplement is not a substitute for a balanced diet or for treating the cause of a symptom. Iron makes stools black and can cause constipation — this is expected, but tell your doctor if it troubles you. Keep iron-containing products well out of reach of children; an overdose in a small child is a medical emergency. Check the labels of everything you take so you do not double up on the same nutrient.
Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack.
Antacids, iron, zinc and calcium reduce the absorption of tetracyclines — separate them by a couple of hours. Tell your doctor if you take a blood thinner. Iron, calcium, zinc and magnesium reduce the absorption of thyroid tablets and several antibiotics — separate them by a few hours. Tea and coffee taken with iron reduce how much is absorbed; vitamin C increases it.
Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
Space the doses evenly and complete the course. Take tetracyclines with a full glass of water and stay upright for half an hour afterwards. Never use a leftover antibiotic, or someone else's, for a new illness. Take it with food unless the pack says otherwise. Have deficiencies confirmed and rechecked by blood test rather than supplementing indefinitely.
