Composition of Nilac-A

Nilac-A contains Adapalene + Clindamycin. It belongs to the Retinoid / keratolytic and Antibacterial agent class of medicines.

Uses of Nilac-A

  • Acne
  • Blackheads
  • Whiteheads
  • Pigmentation
  • Rough skin
  • Bacterial infection
  • Gut infection
  • Skin infection
  • Dental infection

Benefits of Nilac-A

In Acne
Nilac-A unblocks pores, reduces the bacteria and inflammation behind spots and helps prevent new ones forming. Improvement is gradual over several weeks.
In Blackheads and whiteheads
Nilac-A clears the blocked pores that form blackheads and whiteheads and keeps new ones from forming.
In Pigmentation
Nilac-A lightens dark marks left behind by spots, sun exposure or hormonal changes, evening out the skin tone over weeks of regular use.
In Rough skin
Nilac-A smooths rough, uneven skin by speeding up the shedding of dead surface cells.
In Bacterial infection
Nilac-A treats the bacterial infection it was prescribed for by killing the bacteria or stopping them multiplying. Finishing the course makes sure the infection does not return.
In Gut infection
Nilac-A clears the bacteria or other organisms causing diarrhoea, abdominal pain and bloating, so the gut settles.
In Skin infection
Nilac-A treats infected skin and soft tissue, bringing down redness, swelling and pain.
In Dental infection
Nilac-A treats infections of the teeth and gums, easing the pain and swelling until your dentist can deal with the cause.

How Nilac-A works

This medicine combines 2 active ingredients: Adapalene and Clindamycin. Adapalene unblocks the pores and speeds up the turnover of skin cells, so fewer spots form. Clindamycin kills or stops the growth of the bacteria causing your infection.

How to take Nilac-A

Use this medicine as your doctor has directed. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe irritation when far too much cream is applied; an oral retinoid taken in excess can cause headache, vomiting and liver injury. It can cause vomiting, severe loose motions and nerve symptoms. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Nilac-A

Most side effects of Nilac-A are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:

  • Dryness
  • Peeling
  • Redness
  • Burning or stinging
  • Increased sensitivity to sunlight
  • Nausea
  • Metallic taste
  • Loose motions
  • Stomach pain
  • Headache

Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Acne often looks worse for the first two to four weeks before it improves. This is expected — do not stop. Use sunscreen every day. These medicines make the skin burn much more easily. Oral isotretinoin must never be taken in pregnancy — it causes severe birth defects. Reliable contraception and the pregnancy tests your dermatologist requires are essential before, during and after the course. Start with alternate nights and build up, and do not use more than a pea-sized amount for the whole face. Do not combine several strong acne actives at once without advice — the irritation compounds. Finish the whole course even after you feel better. Do not drink any alcohol while taking metronidazole, ornidazole or tinidazole, or for the period after the course that your doctor states — the combination causes severe flushing, vomiting and a racing heart. Report severe or watery loose motions during or after the course rather than treating them yourself. Tetracyclines stain developing teeth and are avoided in young children and in pregnancy. Antibiotics do not work against colds, flu or most sore throats, which are caused by viruses.

Do not take Nilac-A if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Oral retinoids are absolutely contraindicated in pregnancy and in anyone who might become pregnant without a pregnancy prevention programme. Topical retinoids are avoided in pregnancy.

Interactions with other medicines

Do not combine with other peeling agents or with waxing and harsh scrubs. Oral retinoids must not be combined with tetracycline antibiotics. Antacids, iron, zinc and calcium reduce the absorption of tetracyclines — separate them by a couple of hours. Tell your doctor if you take a blood thinner.

How to store Nilac-A

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Quick tips for Nilac-A

  • Apply retinoids at night to clean, dry skin, and moisturise afterwards.
  • Give it at least eight to twelve weeks before judging whether it works.
  • Do not pick or squeeze spots.
  • That is what leaves scars.
  • Space the doses evenly and complete the course.
  • Take tetracyclines with a full glass of water and stay upright for half an hour afterwards.
  • Never use a leftover antibiotic, or someone else's, for a new illness.
