Benzoic Acid 6% w/w + Salicylic Acid 3% w/w (Whitfield’s ointment)
Fungal skin infections (dermatophytosis) such as ringworm (tinea corporis), athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), jock itch (tinea cruris); helps in associated scaling and thickened skin.
Benzoic acid creates an acidic environment that inhibits growth of dermatophytes. Salicylic acid is a keratolytic that softens and removes scales, improving penetration of the antifungal environment and reducing thickened skin.
For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer 1–2 times daily or as directed by a doctor. Continue for the prescribed duration (often 2–4 weeks) and for 1–2 weeks after symptoms improve to reduce recurrence. Avoid application on broken skin and mucous membranes.
Common side effects of NU-WHITFIELD OINTMENT may include:
Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and genitals; rinse with water if contact occurs. Do not use on broken/oozing skin or large areas for prolonged periods. Stop and consult a doctor if severe irritation, swelling or worsening occurs. Use with caution in children and in people with sensitive skin. Not meant for nail/scalp fungal infections unless advised by a doctor.
