How Sofradex F Cream works

Sofradex-F Cream is a combination of three medicines: Dexamethasone, Framycetin and Clotrimazole. Dexamethasone is a steroid which blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen and itchy. Clotrimazole is an antifungal medication. It kills and stops the growth of the fungi by destroying its cell membrane. Framycetin is an antibiotic. It stops bacterial growth on the skin, by preventing synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. Together, they treat your skin infection effectively.

How to take Sofradex F Cream

This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the cream. Wash your hands after applying, unless hands are the affected area.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Sofradex-F Cream, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Sofradex F than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Sofradex F Cream

Most side effects of Sofradex F are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

How to store Sofradex F Cream

Store Sofradex F below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the pack tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not use it after the expiry date printed on the pack.

Expert advice for Sofradex F Cream

Sofradex-F Cream must be applied as a thin layer on the affected area as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use this medicine more often or for longer than advised by your doctor. Before each application, wash the affected area with soap and water and dry well. Avoid getting it in the eyes, mouth or nose. Rinse with cold water if you accidentally get it in these areas. Do not cover the area being treated with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects. Inform your doctor if the treated skin area does not improve after 2-4 weeks of treatment.
