Medically reviewed by Dr. Balaji Krishnan, MBBS · Updated September 2026
Soliqua Solostar contains Insulin Glargine (100IU/ml) + Lixisenatide (0.05mg/ml). It belongs to the Insulin and SGLT2 inhibitor / GLP-1 analogue class of medicines.
This medicine combines 2 active ingredients: Insulin Glargine and Lixisenatide. Insulin Glargine replaces or supplements the insulin your body cannot make enough of, moving sugar out of the blood and into your cells. Lixisenatide lowers blood sugar by making your kidneys pass surplus glucose out in the urine, and also eases the load on the heart and kidneys.
Use this medicine as your doctor has directed. Follow the dose and the duration written on your prescription.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
Contact your doctor or diabetes nurse for advice — do not take a double dose to make up for a missed injection.
An overdose of this medicine can cause severe low blood sugar, leading to fits or unconsciousness — this is a medical emergency. It can cause dehydration and a fall in blood pressure. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Most side effects of Soliqua Solostar are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
| Pregnancy | Not recommended in pregnancy — it may harm the developing baby. Tell your doctor at once if you are or might be pregnant. |
|---|---|
| Breastfeeding | Not recommended while breastfeeding. |
| Alcohol | Do not drink alcohol while taking this medicine. |
| Driving | May cause drowsiness or affect your concentration. Do not drive until you know how it affects you. |
| Kidney | Consult your doctor if you have kidney disease. |
| Liver | Use with caution if you have liver disease — your doctor may adjust the dose or monitor your liver function. |
| Habit forming | No |
If you feel shaky, sweaty, confused or unusually hungry, take sugar, glucose or a sweet drink at once and tell your doctor — these are signs your blood sugar has fallen too low. Never change your insulin brand, strength or type on your own — always through your doctor. Rotate the injection site each time, or fatty lumps will form and the insulin will be absorbed unpredictably. Do not use insulin that has changed colour, gone cloudy when it should be clear, or has clumps in it. Never share a pen or needle, even with a family member. Drink enough water, especially in hot weather or if you have loose motions — this medicine makes you pass more urine. Seek urgent care for nausea with vomiting, stomach pain and deep rapid breathing, even if your sugar reading is normal. Report any pain, tenderness, redness or swelling in the genital area or perineum immediately — this is rare but needs same-day attention. Genital thrush is common; keep the area clean and dry and tell your doctor if it recurs.
Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not to be used during an episode of low blood sugar. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis. Not for people with severe kidney disease.
Beta blockers can mask the warning signs of low blood sugar. Steroids raise blood sugar and your insulin dose may need review. Water tablets increase the risk of dehydration and low blood pressure when taken with this. Low blood sugar is more likely when combined with insulin or a sulfonylurea.
Keep unopened insulin in the refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C — never in the freezer, and never against the ice box. The pen or vial in use may be kept below 30°C, away from direct sunlight, for the period stated on the pack. Keep out of the reach of children.
Keep an unopened supply in the fridge and the pen in use at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Always carry a fast-acting sugar source. Check your sugar as your doctor has instructed, and keep a record to take to appointments. Take it in the morning so the extra urine does not disturb your sleep. Keep up your fluid intake and maintain genital hygiene. Tell any doctor treating you for an acute illness that you take this medicine.
