How Stalfate Suspension works

Stalfate O Suspension is a combination of two medicines: Sucralfate and Oxetacaine / Oxethazaine. Sucralfate is a medication to treat ulcers. It covers the damaged ulcer tissue in the stomach and protects it from acid or injury to facilitate healing. Oxetacaine / Oxethazaine is a local anesthetic whose numbing effect provides fast relief from pain caused due to ulcers or acidic injury in the stomach.

How to take Stalfate Suspension

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Stalfate O Suspension is to be taken empty stomach.<br>Take it preferably 15 minutes before food.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause severe loose motions or constipation and disturb the body's salt balance. It may cause bloating and loose motions. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Stalfate are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

This is for short-term relief. See a doctor if you need it most days for more than a couple of weeks. Seek urgent care for chest pain that spreads to the arm or jaw, comes with sweating or breathlessness — do not assume it is acidity. Antacids interfere with the absorption of many other medicines. Take them at least two hours apart from anything else. Loose motions with high fever, blood in the stool or severe abdominal pain need a doctor, not a home remedy. Oral rehydration salts and fluids matter more than any medicine when you have loose motions — dehydration is the real danger, especially in children and older people. Take a probiotic a couple of hours apart from an antibiotic so the antibiotic does not simply kill it. Do not use an anti-motility medicine such as loperamide if you have a fever or blood in the stool.

Do not take Stalfate if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Magnesium-containing antacids are avoided in significant kidney disease. Probiotics are used with caution in people whose immune system is significantly suppressed.

Interactions with other medicines

Reduces the absorption of thyroid tablets, iron, and several antibiotics — separate them by at least two hours. Antibiotics reduce the effect of probiotics taken at the same time.

How to store Stalfate Suspension

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Some probiotic preparations ask to be refrigerated — follow the pack. Keep out of the reach of children.

Expert advice for Stalfate Suspension

Take it after meals and at bedtime when symptoms are worst. Avoid late heavy meals, and raise the head of your bed if symptoms wake you at night. Keep up fluids and oral rehydration salts. Return to a normal diet as soon as you can manage it.
