Levothyroxine is synthetic thyroxine (T4), a thyroid hormone normally produced by the body. It is converted to active T3 in tissues and helps restore normal thyroid hormone levels, regulating metabolism, energy, heart rate and growth.
Take orally once daily exactly as prescribed, preferably in the morning on an empty stomach 30–60 minutes before breakfast with water. Avoid taking with calcium/iron/antacids or multivitamins; keep a 4-hour gap. Use the same brand consistently and do not stop or change dose without medical advice; dose is adjusted based on TSH/T4 tests.

Not for weight loss/obesity treatment. Use caution in heart disease, angina, arrhythmias, hypertension and in elderly—may need lower starting dose. Overdose can cause symptoms of hyperthyroidism and serious cardiac effects. Monitor TSH/free T4 periodically; dose requirements may change in pregnancy, with weight changes, or with interacting medicines. If signs of chest pain, severe palpitations, shortness of breath occur, seek medical care.
