Levothyroxine is a synthetic form of the thyroid hormone T4. It is converted in the body to T3 and binds thyroid hormone receptors to regulate metabolism, growth and energy use, restoring normal thyroid hormone levels and reducing TSH.
Tablet (oral). Take once daily exactly as prescribed, preferably in the morning on an empty stomach 30–60 minutes before breakfast with water. Avoid taking with calcium/iron/antacids or multivitamins within 4 hours; take consistently at the same time each day.

Use only under medical supervision; dose is individualized and monitored with TSH/FT4. Overdose may cause hyperthyroidism and serious cardiac effects (angina, arrhythmias); use caution in elderly and in heart disease. Not for weight loss/obesity treatment. In adrenal insufficiency, treat adrenal condition before starting. May worsen diabetes control; monitor glucose. If symptoms of thyrotoxicosis occur, seek medical advice.
