How Trigan D Tablet works

Trigan D Tablet is a combination of two medicines: dicyclomine and paracetamol, which help relieve abdominal pain and cramps. Dicyclomine is an anticholinergic that relaxes the muscles in the stomach and intestines. It stops sudden muscle contractions (spasms), thereby relieving cramps, pain, bloating, and discomfort. Paracetamol is an analgesic (pain reliever) that works by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers responsible for pain.

How to take Trigan D Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Trigan D Tablet may be taken with or without food.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Trigan D Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a racing heart, confusion, blurred vision and difficulty passing urine. It can cause severe and sometimes fatal liver damage, often with no symptoms at all for the first day. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Trigan D are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

Severe abdominal pain, particularly with fever or vomiting, needs a doctor rather than a painkiller or antispasmodic. May cause blurred vision and drowsiness — do not drive until you know how it affects you. Tell your doctor if you have glaucoma, an enlarged prostate or difficulty passing urine. Never exceed the daily maximum printed on the pack. Paracetamol overdose damages the liver, and the damage can be silent for a day or two before it becomes serious. Check every other medicine you are taking. Paracetamol is in a very large number of cold, flu and pain combinations, and the doses add together. If you drink alcohol regularly, or have liver disease, ask your doctor what daily limit is safe for you. See a doctor if fever lasts more than three days, or pain more than five.

Do not take Trigan D if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with glaucoma, urinary retention, or a blockage of the gut. Not for people with severe liver disease, except under medical supervision.

Interactions with other medicines

Adds to the dry mouth, constipation and drowsiness caused by antihistamines and some antidepressants. Regular alcohol use increases the risk of liver injury. Tell your doctor if you are on warfarin — regular high-dose paracetamol can affect it.

How to store Trigan D Tablet

Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Do not take Trigan D Tablet with other medicines containing paracetamol (such as some cold or fever medicines) unless advised by your doctor. Trigan D Tablet may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision, so avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you. Avoid alcohol while taking Trigan D Tablet, as it may increase drowsiness and stomach-related side effects. Dry mouth may occur while using Trigan D Tablet; drinking water, frequent mouth rinsing, and maintaining good oral hygiene may help. Stay well hydrated, as antispasmodic medicines may worsen constipation in some people. Seek medical advice if abdominal pain is severe, persistent, or accompanied by fever, vomiting, or blood in the stool. Inform your doctor if you have glaucoma, urinary retention, enlarged prostate, or bowel obstruction before taking Trigan D Tablet. Stop the medicine and seek medical help if you develop rash, swelling of the face, or breathing difficulty. Consult your doctor if cramps keep recurring or pain worsens instead of improving.
