Tryptomer 10 Tablet contains Amitriptyline (10mg). It belongs to the Tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) class of medicines.

How Tryptomer 10 Tablet works

Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant that increases levels of serotonin and noradrenaline in the brain by inhibiting their reuptake. It also has pain-modulating and sedative effects, which can help in neuropathic pain and headache prevention.

How to take Tryptomer 10 Tablet

Take exactly as prescribed. Swallow the tablet with water. Often taken at bedtime due to drowsiness; can be taken with or without food. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice; dose is usually started low and increased gradually.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Tryptomer 10mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause fits, dangerous heart rhythm disturbance and coma, and is particularly dangerous with the older tricyclic medicines. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Tryptomer are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Warnings and precautions

May cause marked drowsiness—avoid driving/operating machinery. Risk of suicidal thoughts especially at start of therapy or dose changes; seek help if mood worsens. Use with caution in glaucoma, urinary retention/prostatic enlargement, epilepsy, thyroid disease, liver disease, and cardiovascular disease (may cause arrhythmias); ECG monitoring may be needed in some patients. Do not use with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping them. Not recommended in recent myocardial infarction. May cause serotonin syndrome when combined with serotonergic drugs. Avoid abrupt discontinuation (withdrawal symptoms).

Do not take Tryptomer if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Must not be combined with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor, or started within the gap your doctor specifies after one.

Interactions with other medicines

MAO inhibitors, SSRIs/SNRIs and other serotonergic drugs (e.g., tramadol, linezolid) , alcohol and CNS depressants, anticholinergics, antihypertensives (additive hypotension), QT-prolonging drugs/antiarrhythmics, cimetidine (may increase levels), carbamazepine/phenytoin (may reduce levels), warfarin (monitor), clonidine (reduced effect)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Tryptomer 10 Tablet

Tryptomer 10mg Tablet may cause sleepiness. Take it at bedtime and do not drive or perform any activity requiring concentration until you know how it affects you. Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Tryptomer 10mg Tablet, as it may cause excessive sleepiness. Monitor your weight during treatment, as this medicine can cause weight gain and increased appetite. It may cause a sudden drop in blood pressure. Rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. Talk to your doctor if you notice sudden mood changes or develop suicidal thoughts. Pay close attention to any changes, especially sudden changes, in mood, behavior, thoughts, or feelings. This is particularly important when the medicine is started or when the dose is changed. This medication can significantly reduce saliva production, leading to dry mouth (xerostomia). Maintain strict oral hygiene by brushing twice daily with toothpaste and flossing regularly. This medication may reduce tear production, leading to dry eyes. If you wear contact lenses, your doctor may advise using preservative-free lubricating eye drops to maintain proper eye and lens hygiene.
