Composition of Ultracet Tablet

Ultracet Tablet contains Tramadol (37.5mg) + Paracetamol (325mg). It belongs to the Opioid analgesic + Non-opioid analgesic (centrally acting opioid agonist/monoamine reuptake inhibitor + para-aminophenol derivative) class of medicines.

How Ultracet Tablet works

Paracetamol reduces pain by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system. Tramadol is an opioid analgesic that also inhibits reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine, enhancing descending pain inhibition. The combination provides additive analgesia.

Warnings and precautions

May cause drowsiness—avoid driving/operating machinery. Risk of dependence, misuse and withdrawal with tramadol. Do not use with other paracetamol-containing products; overdose can cause severe liver damage. Use caution in liver or kidney disease, elderly, head injury, respiratory disease/asthma, history of seizures, and in patients at risk of serotonin syndrome. Avoid in severe respiratory depression or acute alcohol/other CNS depressant intoxication. Seek urgent help for slow/shallow breathing, severe sleepiness, allergic reactions, or signs of liver injury (yellowing of skin/eyes, dark urine).

Do not take Ultracet if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for people with an active stomach ulcer, severe kidney or heart failure, or asthma triggered by aspirin or anti-inflammatory painkillers. Not in the third trimester of pregnancy. Not for people with severe liver disease, except under medical supervision.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol and other CNS depressants (benzodiazepines, opioids, sedatives) increase sedation/respiratory depression; SSRIs/SNRIs/TCAs/MAOIs/linezolid/triptans increase risk of serotonin syndrome; drugs lowering seizure threshold (bupropion, antipsychotics) increase seizure risk; warfarin may have increased bleeding risk (reported with paracetamol); CYP2D6 or CYP3A4 inhibitors/inducers (e.g., fluoxetine/paroxetine, ketoconazole, carbamazepine) can alter tramadol effect; other hepatotoxic drugs increase liver risk

Consider taking Ultracet Tablet with milk or food to prevent stomach upset. Ultracet Tablet may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or slowed reaction time, particularly when you first start taking it. It is recommended to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you are certain how it affects you. Drink plenty of water and eat fiber-rich foods like fruits and vegetables to help prevent constipation, a common side effect of Ultracet Tablet. Do not drink alcohol while taking Ultracet Tablet. Alcohol combined with this medicine can cause extreme drowsiness or dangerously slow your breathing. During long-term treatment, your doctor may conduct regular blood tests to monitor your liver function. Inform your doctor if you have a history of heart disease, high blood pressure, liver disease, kidney disease, epilepsy, or any breathing problems before taking Ultracet Tablet. Do not stop taking Ultracet Tablet suddenly if you have been using it for more than a few days. Stopping it abruptly may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, restlessness, sweating, insomnia, and gastrointestinal discomfort.
